Heh. Can never tell what’ll work out. Witch Hunter Robin is fast becoming one of my favourite monster of the week shows. It’s got an aesthetic of its own, but it’s not much of a looker (animation unanimated, cgi gnarly). The action is quite sparse, and nothing exceptional. Still, I’ve enjoyed every episode so far.

My favourite episodes come from the way the writers are quite happy to just not let the story go where instinct says it should. It’s one thing to have an episode where the bad guy gets away, but then later they have one where the bad guy convinces the heroes that he’s basically innocent only for them to smartly turn him over to the men in white coats on grounds of protocol, and there’s the one where they spend the whole episode waiting for a villain only to miss him at the vital moment - and then the villain doesn’t do anything at all anyway. It’s quite admirably unconcerned with making you want to watch the next episode. After all, it’ll just be another slow witchhunt.
